ESG Strategy
At Ghelamco, sustainable real estate has been a priority for over a decade. Since 2011, all of our developments have been carried out in line with BREEAM Excellent, DGNB Gold and WELL Gold certification criteria. Although we continue to create buildings that reach multiple certification awards, over the years we have expanded our view of sustainability towards a more holistic approach.
This Roadmap explains Ghelamco’s ambitions, policies, and approaches in providing future proof Real Estate. It lays out the targets and guidelines on what sustainable real estate means for our developments, with a particular focus on office buildings in Belgium and Poland, our core business. The Playbook addresses impact of our corporate activities (Scope 1+2) as well as of our developments (Scope 3).
OUR SBTI COMMITMENTS
Ghelamco Group is one of the 127 Belgian companies that has successfully joined the SBTi. Our commitment is as follows:
Ghelamco Group has its emissions reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative as consistent with levels required to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement. The targets covering greenhouse gas emissions from Ghelamco Group’s operations (scopes 1 and 2) is consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 1.5°C, the most ambitious goal of the Paris Agreement. The SBTi specifies that a reduction of at least 42% is needed to stay within the Paris targets. We are committed to surpass the SBTi recommendations and achieve at least a 60% reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 with 2021 as the reference year.

ACTIONS ON SBTI TARGETS
In order to achieve these ambitious targets Ghelamco Group will gradually implement the following reduction measures:
- Gradual electrification of company car fleet in Belgium, where this is the largest source of emissions for our Belgian operations.
Move our offices in Poland by 2027 to a new building which will be fossil-free and powered by 100% solar electricity produced by a Ghelamco developed solar farm.
As a result Ghelamco Group's Scope 1 and 2 emissions will drop from 650 ton CO2e in 2021 to about 160 ton CO2e in 2030, the equivalent emissions of 900 homes.
