Senator, Best office building of 2012, developed by Ghelamco sold to Union Investment

Ghelamco sold its prestigious Warsaw’s Senator building to Union Investment Real Estate GmbH, an international investment manager for real estate. The office project that combines rich historical heritage with top quality modern office features located at the city centre, was sold for approximately € 120 million.

The acquisition of Senator office building marks the entry of Union Investment’s open-ended real estate fund “UniImmo: Europa” into the Polish office property market and boosts the geographical diversification of the fund’s portfolio. The tenants include financially sound companies from the oil, financial and media sectors: PKN Orlen as anchor tenant, Rabobank Group, Discovery, EURONET, BRE Bank and Legg Mason.

Senator, the 25,000 sq m class A office building developed by Ghelamco at Bielańska street, was completed in September 2012. The project is one of the most inspiring and most eminent office buildings in Poland in the coming years and the one that helped to restore the prestige of Bielańska street. Senator’s shape draws inspiration from the former Bank of Poland building located at the site and it’s entire project was developed in consultation with the municipal Monument Conservation office. The neighbourhood of Bielańska street in Warsaw’s centre guarantees Senator premier location in the capital. The building is equipped with a 3-level underground garage for 332 cars and an impressive lobby – main atrium which enjoys legal protection as a historical feature and is an example of how Ghelamco combines functional engineering with heritage.

In 2012 Senator building has become a partner of the Green Building Programme of the European Commission and in 2013 obtained the Europe’s leading ecological certificate BREEAM.

Ghelamco won with this project numerous contests, including international awards, gaining the title of the Best Office Design in Europe according to European Property Awards and the most important awards given by prestigious industry magazines like Eurobuild and Construction & Investment Journal.
